Willoughbys On Park

If you are into the luxury dining experience then you are familiar with Willoughby’s. We were chatting with Sabrina Grande-Cirandine, the Owner of Russo’s Market, and she suggested Willoughby’s.

Willoughby’s originally started as a steakhouse concept which, they seem to have mastered, but over the last few years it has evolved into so much more. Live entertainment, DJ night on Wednesdays, and a host of events have given Willoughby’s a fantastic social atmosphere for those looking for cocktails.  Willoughby’s GM, Erika Shifflett recommends the Classic Martini:

Mikura

Mikura is technically an Asian restaurant that serves Japanese, Chinese and Thai all in one location. The Chinese is excellent but the real secret to this place is it’s specialty sushi rolls. The decor is lovely and they even offer hibachi for parties who like a little bit of a show. For the purposes of this article, I am going to focus on the Japanese menu. If you do visit the Mango Delight Roll with fresh salmon, snow crab, crunch inside, topped w. fresh thinly sliced fresh mango; the Red Lips Roll with spicy tuna, lobster, salad, crunch and asparagus wrapped in pink soybean sheet, served with spicy mayo sauce; the Tiger Roll with salmon & tuna, topped w. salmon, tuna & eel, crunchy, masago & scallions, served w. eel avocado sauce; and the Cherry Blossom Roll with fresh red snapper, white tuna, asparagus inside sushi rice cover with crunch BBQ tuna with special sauce is all highly recommended.

If you are a couple, the Love Boat for Two is a great meal for any date night. To start the Beef Negamaki, Kani Mango Salad, and the Wasabi Shrimp Shumai are all highly recommended. Whether you are looking for Japanese, Chinese or Thai, Mikura is an excellent choice.

Thai Cuisine

Tucked away in a little corner just across into the Muhlenberg area is Thai Cuisine. Looking like a true Thai house with intricate landscaping the experience begins. Step inside to find some of the best food in Berks County.  For starters try the combination platter which includes Thai Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay, Shrimp Tempura, and more delights. If you like spicy starters you might try the Silver Shrimp Noodle Salad with Lemon Chili Dressing or the Pork Ginger Salad with fresh ginger, peanuts and lemon dressing.  Can’t-miss entrees include the Seafood Curry with shrimp, crab meat, tuna, scallops, mussels and clams in a coconut cream sauce, Grilled Salmon with Shrimp Panang, and the Salmon and Crab Basil with jumbo lump crab meat with garlic chili and basil. 3 Great Spots for Outdoor Summer Dining in Berks County.

BerksLuxury.com did our homework and we are here to bring you three of the best spots for dining outdoors in Berks County. If you are looking for great wine, your own pool party or the biggest outdoor entertainment venue in Berks we got you covered!

Beverly Hills Tavern

Beverly Hills Tavern has been a staple of Berks County going back the two decades I can remember, and possibly longer. Their outdoor dining area is legendary and their Summer crowds always pack the place. It is a huge outdoor venue with a huge cabana bar and plenty of seating for all those who wish to enjoy a little staycation while still in Berks County. The atmosphere is relaxing, they usually have bands or DJ’s like Berks’ s own Koolie Kirk keeping people in a good mood through their Happy Hour, and the real treat is their daily Summer Specials. They keep people happy with their Prime Rib Weekends, Smokehouse RIbs & Pulled Pork every Wednesday during the Summer, they have their Sunday’s Seafood Fest and even a Taco Bar. If you are a Sunday afternoon Brunch person then definitely stop by for their Brunch Buffet on Sundays where you can get bottomless mimosas!

Folino Estate

If you are looking for an epic Summer dining experience you may want to check out Folino Estate Winery. This gorgeous rustic winery has all the feel of elegance and one of the best outdoor dining patios to match. Drink wine straight from the vineyard and dine on their array of fantastic dishes. If you are there for Brunch try the tiramisu waffles which are dipped in espresso topped with sweet ricotta cheese and drizzled in syrup. For Dinner try the Prosciutto-Wrapped Filet ($32), the Roasted Grape Pork Tenderloin ($24) or the Italian Crab Cakes ($26). If you are there more for the wine fear not, they also make a delectable array of paninis, pizzas and other finger food. Don’t forget to grab a couple of bottles of wine on your way out!

Pool @ The Inn at Reading

The Pool @ the Inn at Reading is one of Berks County’s best-hidden treasures. The venue has recently been updated by the new owners and is the only bar with an outdoor pool in Berks County. You can order drinks and food from their outdoor cabana bar and sit poolside and lounge in the sun! Enjoy the ambiance while working on your Summer tan. New management is promising a new name and a new series of events once the venue is completely finished. Until then their cabana bar is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays!

Tequila or Whiskey? The Best Spirits in Berks County.

It seems Berks County has only two experts when it comes to the world of spirits. Today BerksLuxury.com is going to take a look at Shirley’s Tequila Bar in Temple, and The Whiskey Bar in West Reading. If your tastes skew towards refined whiskey or tequila we have you covered!

Shirley’s Tequila Bar

1615 Duke Street, Laureldale PA 19605      www.shirleystequilabar.com

Shirley’s Tequila Bar is Berks County’s own tequila specialist. The restaurant is filled with tasty Mexican themed delights. We suggest you start with the Chorizo Stuffed Mushrooms or the Tex Mex Caviar before moving onto the Shrimp Vera Cruz Cazuela or Shirley’s original Tex-Mex Filet Mignon.

As far as tequila goes you will not find a finer selection in all of Berks County.  For those of you who would like an adventure into finer tequilas I would recommend:

“Millionaire” Flight   $49

Don Julio Real • Gran Patron Burdeos • Herrdura Selecion Suprema

“Sky’s the Limit” Flight    $20

Casa Noble Extra Añejo 5 Year • Herradura Collecion de Casa Portwood • Clase Azul Reposado

“High Roller” Flight   $22

Don Julio 1942 Añejo • Milagro Añejo Select Barrel • El Tesoro Paradiso Extra Añejo

The Whiskey Bar

624 Penn Ave. West Reading PA 19610     www.distilledwhiskey.com

Berks County’s other spirit specialized establishment is The Whiskey Bar on Penn Ave in West Reading. Specializing in America’s favorite and most distinguished dark spirit, The Whiskey Bar provides those adventurous enough to venture out on Friday and Saturday nights with access to a classy establishment with a great selection of whiskey!

BerksLuxury.com asked Ben Franco the visionary behind the establishment to make a few recommendations and he proposed:

WHISTLE PIG FLIGHT, $26 – Whistle Pig 10yr, Whistle Pig Farmstock, Whistle Pig Old World

“We bundle together some great flights that make sense having next to each other.  The first is offering from whistle pig out of Vermont these are all rye whiskey, the first is their signature rye and it is 100% rye at 10 years of age.. The Farmstock is there first triple where they grew some of the rye, the water used was from the farm and some of the barrels to age it were from there Forrest.  The last is aged in 3 types of spent barrels the first, its used Sauternes barrels from Bordeaux, the second is used port barrels from Portugal, and the third finish is Madeira finish again from an island off the coast of Portugal.  Very Unique and distinctive Rye whiskeys”

THROUGH THE AGES FLIGHT, $27 – Glenlivet 12 Year, Glenlivet 18 Year, Glenlivet 21 Year

“The ages flight we have is a great way to see the evolution of whiskey all with the same single malt scotch”

The Distilled Whiskey shares its kitchen with the Winedown Cafe so delicious bites are always available. Try the Shoe String Duck Fries or the Brie Cheese with Amarana Cherries for starters and try the Shrimp & Parmesan Grits or the Truffle Mushroom Arancini for something a bit more filling.

5 Sexy Restaurants For Date Night

Top 5 sexy restaurants for date night in Berks County.

Viva Castle Pub

5311 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, (610) 779-1000  www.vivacastlepub.com

While any of Viva’s 3 existing locations are the perfect date night, I have chosen Viva Castle Pub out of the three since it is the newest and it’s location at the Reading Country Club makes it the perfect night out on the town with that special someone. For starters try the Strawberry Baked Brie, Sweet Potato Pub Fries or the Spicey Battered-Dipped Shrimp. If you are just going for light fare try the Kobe Burger with Wagyu Beef Patty, Melted Brie, Applewood-Smoked Bacon, and Truffled Mustard Aioli. If you are looking for something a bit more substantial we recommend the  Citrus Roasted or Sweet Potato-Encrusted Salmon and possibly the Seafood Mac & Cheese for your significant other. The architecture and the ambiance, what else could you ask for?

Building 24 Restaurant

1115 Bern Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, (610) 375-2700,  www.bldg24.com

Building 24 always seems to keep the kitchen fresh with new Chefs and a new menu seasonally.  While you may want to avoid the restaurant during their weekly Saturday night dance party due to overcrowding, every other night of the week there is a culinary delight in a beautiful atmosphere. I recommend the PA Maple and Chili Glazed Wings with Smoky Buttermilk Blue Cheese Dressing, Toasted Pecans for an appetizer. The main course brings such delights as Porcini Dusted Filet Mignon, Roasted Lancaster Chicken, and Korean Marinated Pork Loin. Chef Ryan McQuillan keeps the kitchen flavor fresh and the specials tantalizing each week.

Willoughby’s  On Park

305 N Park Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, (610) 816-7473  www.willoughbysonpark.com

Berks County’s version of the classic Steakhouse and Raw Bar. Elegantly designed and featuring one of the best menus in Berks County. For appetizers, you have to try the Beef Carpaccio, Wasabi Thai Calamari and the Lobster Tempura. Main courses to enhance your evening are the Lobster Ravioli with a whole Lobster Tail, 26 oz Porterhouse or the Kobe Waygu Tomahawk for two. A great wine selection and dessert selection add to the atmosphere. Try Wednesday nights when DJ Evolution spins an eclectic mix of soothing sounds to hint at a party atmosphere.

Knights Pub @ Stokesay Castle

141 Stokesay Castle Ln, Reading, PA 19606,   (610) 375-6100,   www.theknightspub.com

If one castle wasn’t enough we have yet another one to add to your date night list. The Knights Pub located at the top of the mountain in Stokesay Castle is a culinary delight. To start, try the Portobello French Fries or the Wonton Wrapped Wasabi Shrimp. While they have a great selection of burgers and sandwiches I would hold off for the Wild Boar with a Juniper berry demi, asparagus, and feta mashed potatoes. You may also want to try the Chilean Sea Bass with roasted corn and crab salsa with a Sherry cream sauce.  Those less adventurous can try the more traditional Surf & Turf.

Dan’s @ Green Hills – 2444 Morgantown Rd. Reading, PA 19607   www.dansatgreenhills.com

Dan’s makes the list for those of you who are simply foodies. Nothing like an excellent meal to get your night started off right and you really can’t do much better than the menu selection at this fine dining establishment. Take a trip up Rt. 10 to the Flying Hills exit and you will be able to find such superb dishes as the Pan Roasted Nordic Wolffish that is Pistachio Encrusted with Apple Fig Risotto & Orange Glaze. Try the  “Prime” Filet Mignon of Beef Roasted with Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Chipollini Moscato Jam & Red Wine Demi or the Asian Encrusted Tuna Wasabi w Thai Peanut,  Soba Noddle Salad Carrot, Red Pepper & Snow Peas.

For starters look for the Sweet Potato Soup flavored with Apples, Pretzel Dust, Spiced Whipped Cream, Sunflower Seeds & Thyme or the Lump Crab Cake w Roasted Pumpkin Salsa, Pumpkin Seeds & Cranberry Aioli.

These 5 restaurants should quench your thirst for culinary delights on your next evening with someone special!
